Recently while perusing topographic maps of the Great North Woods area, my eye was drawn toward an interesting geologic feature. With experience in reading topographic maps and experience in applying this information to real-world areas on the ground, you can make many inferences of value to the planning of expeditions.

Bush Hike 2012 July 15
Yesterday afternoon in the lower elevations of Great North Woods was 95° F with 100% humidity. But that didn’t stop me from hiking a small mountain, taking plenty of pictures, and having unexpected adventures.

Camera Trapping 2012 July 13
Yesterday while standing at the office computer I heard a commotion just outside the window. Members of the household working in the garden were clapping their hands and shouting loudly. As my eyes adjusted to the bright outdoor sunlight I glimpsed a small rolly-polly Black Bear bounding across the driveway and into the forest.

Cutting Down Trees

Camera Trapping 2012 July 9
This morning I collected the memory cards from a trail camera located on the edge of the beaver swamp on the BushCraft Blog compound. It’s “bird day”, having camera-trapped a Blue Jay, Northern Flicker, and a Robin. Enjoy the pictures.

Camera Trapping 2012 July 8
Last night the BushCraft Blog camera trap caught this Gray Fox patrolling the area between the beaver swamp and the inner compound. Elusive, crafty, and the ultimate stealthy predator, the solitary Gray Fox is seldom seen and very rarely caught.
